Propane Training

We have certified trainers on staff to train our commercial clients through the Propane Training Institute.

Here are the courses available:

P•T•I 100-01: PROPANE PUMP ATTENDANT

This course has been designed for individuals who fill propane cylinders and auto propane tanks – generally in a retail setting. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or gain initial knowledge through self-study by reading the course manual in conjunction with viewing the course video, followed up with a demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer or Examiner.

P•T•I 100-02: FILLING AUTO PROPANE TANKS

This course has been designed for individuals who fill their own auto propane tanks generally through a private propane dispensing system, keylock or cardlock system. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or gain initial knowledge through self-study by reading the course manual in conjunction with viewing the course video, followed up with a demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer or Examiner.

P•T•I 100-03: TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS – PROPANE SPECIFIC

This course has been designed for individuals who offer propane for transport, who transport propane, or direct others to either transport or offer for transport propane and other LPG’s that fall under the UN Dangerous Goods number 1075 or 1978. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or, upon the direction of a P·T·I certified Trainer, study the course manual and attend a specialized review session and demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer.

P•T•I 100-08: FILLING PROPANE CYLINDERS

This course has been designed for individuals who fill propane cylinders – generally in a retail setting. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or gain initial knowledge through self-study by reading the course manual in conjunction with viewing the course video, followed up with a demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer or Examiner.

P•T•I 300-05: CARGO LOADING AND SECUREMENT: PROPANE TANKS, CYLINDERS & EQUIPMENT

This course has been designed for individuals wishing to learn regulatory requirements and industry best-practices in respect to cargo loading and securement of propane tanks, cylinders and related equipment. While a student may attend an instructor-led training course, this course has also been designed to be led as on-the-job training. The student will also gain initial knowledge through self-study of the course manual followed up with a demonstration of correct procedures by the employer or a P?T?I certified Trainer.

P•T•I 400-01: CONNECTION & USE OF CONSTRUCTION HEATERS UP TO 400,000 BTUH

This course has been designed for individuals who use propane powered construction heaters (up to 400,000 BTUH) and hand-held torches… Students who only require instruction on the safe use of hand-held torches may take P·T·I’s 400-08 – Propane Torches course instead of this course. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or, upon the direction of a P·T·I certified Trainer, study the course manual and attend a specialized review session and demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer.

P•T•I 400-02: INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE OF CONSTRUCTION HEATERS

This course has been designed for individuals who inspect and conduct maintenance on propane powered construction heaters. This course is limited to students who are certified Gas Technicians. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or, upon the direction of a P·T·I certified Trainer, study the course manual and attend a specialized review session and demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer.

P•T•I 400-03: CONNECTION AND USE OF CONSTRUCTION HEATERS OVER 400,000 BTUH

This course has been designed for individuals who use propane powered construction heaters with a BTUH output greater than 400,000. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or, upon the direction of a P•T•I certified Trainer, study the course manual and attend a specialized review session and demonstration of correct procedures by a P•T•I certified Trainer. In either case, the certification requirements must be achieved in order to successfully complete the course. It should be noted that the connection and disconnection of tanks and vapourizers utilized with high output construction heaters can only be completed by certified gas technicians with appropriate liquid propane endorsements.

P•T•I 400-04: FILLING FORKLIFT CYLINDERS BY VOLUME

This course has been designed for individuals who fill carburetion cylinders used on forklifts and other off-road vehicles using the volume method of filling. The student may attend an instructor-led training course or, upon the direction of a P·T·I certified Trainer, study the course manual and attend a specialized review session and demonstration of correct procedures by a P·T·I certified Trainer.

P•T•I 800-01: WORKING WITH PROPANE

This course is a self-teach awareness training course for anyone wanting a basic overview about propane, propane systems and the proper, safe way to use this premium fuel.

P•T•I 800-02: PROPANE CONTAINER LOCATION

This course is a self-study awareness course for any individual wishing to gain an understanding of location requirements for consumer propane containers. This is an ideal course for supervisors who are responsible for ensuring the correct location of propane containers and identifying any safety concerns with the installation of propane cylinders, tanks and related components.

P•T•I 800-03: AWARENESS PROGRAM PROPANE USE AT CONSTRUCTION SITES

This course is a self-study awareness course for any individual wishing to gain an understanding of the requirements for propane use at construction sites. This is an ideal course for supervisors who are responsible for ensuring correct safety procedures for handling propane and propane equipment.

P•T•I 911-01: LPG AWARENESS FOR FIREFIGHTERS

This course has been developed specifically for Canadian firefighters. The course provides key information related to Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPGs) that will enhance risk assessment processes related to incidents involving propane and other LPGs. Firefighters taking this course will develop a consistent approach to LPG-related incidents leading to enhanced public safety, minimizing the risk of personal injury to the public or the firefighters and propane industry personnel involved in these incidents. Classroom delivery of this course can be completed in approximately six hours.
